About BayBlog

Since 1977 Maryland Sea Grant has supported marine science, education, and outreach. We’ve also been fortunate to have a front row seat in many debates about oysters, crabs, striped bass, nutrients, and the shifting ecological states of the Chesapeake Bay. During that time we’ve developed some opinions of our own.

We floated the idea of a BayBlog to the Chesapeake Bay Trust in 2007 as part of a proposal to support online outreach efforts for our magazine, Chesapeake Quarterly. As part of an ongoing redesign of our website, we launched BayBlog in June 2008. We are grateful to the Bay Trust for their support.

Blogs on this site are posted by the principal writers for Chesapeake Quarterly, often in connection with feature pieces they have researched and written for the magazine. The opinions expressed here are those of the bloggers, and do not represent the official positions of Maryland Sea Grant, nor of our primary funders, the University System of Maryland, the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

We welcome your comments, and we hope that BayBlog will add to the rich conversation that always swirls around the Chesapeake.
